MYP students try to make sense of the World of COVID through Art

During Distance Learning we assigned a project which was called “The Quarantine Diaries” in which students were given weekly prompts. Each prompt invited students to look at a theme through the lens of COVID. Attached here are images students made for the Prompt: “What’s on your mind” which was inspired by an article in National Geographic related to Pandemic Dreams. It exploring feelings, emotions and dreams that our students were having. At the end of the term, students assembled their work into a digital diary.

From one of our MYP year 4 students:

“These prompts have been very exciting to complete and I would like to continue making art that revolve around themes. If I were to continue the Quarantine Diaries, I think I would want to try and play around with photography more. I would want to create a digital line drawing over an image. In the past, we’ve observed the world around us and the things happening within our own minds. I think it would be interesting to alter our reality. Now, more than ever, we need or imagination. I think it would be interesting to capture the moments happening right now, and doodling the things that we would like to add. I’d add family, food and all the things that I would like to have with me. I think this idea would test me, artistically, and help me to get in touch with my whimsical side.”
